The Ford GT has just been released this year as a successor for the car released back in 2003 which in its turn was based on the GT40 race-car from the 1960s. The new model on the other hand is nothing like the original. It employs the newest technologies known to man in order to make one of the best looking and fastest cars on the road. The 2016 Ford GT will be available to the public starting with the second half of 2016 and even though at first many people thought that the car would cost around $150,000, it now seems that Ford wants to built it in a very limited series of cars which could consist out of around 1000 units.
2016 Ford GT Review
This means that the price will not be the one rumored at first but a much higher one. The base model of the 2016 Ford GT will start at little over $400,000 and it will become the most expensive car Ford ever made. It is unknown for now if they will also release special editions of the car but it is quite likely that cars with special liveries will be built some time in the future for a much higher price tag than that of the base model.
The design of the 2016 Ford GT is probably the most striking aspect of this car because it looks nothing like the original. The car has been designed with speed in mind so it is no wonder that every panel serves a purpose. The front end has a massive intake which routes air to the radiators and expels it through the vented hood. There is also a splitter built into the bumper which should provide quite a bit of downforce.
The rear of the car features a center mounted exhaust, two round tail lights and a race-car-like diffuser. Another unique aspect about it is that it has two flying buttresses which connect the rear fenders to the main body of the car. This means that the driver and its passengers have to share a really narrow cabin which has been designed like this in order to provide as much downforce as possible. Some engineers even said that the car looks more like an inverted plane than a car which is quite true.
2016 Ford GT Interior
The interior on the other hand is not nearly as impressive as the exterior. There are two racing seats which offer the needed support, Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system which also acts as the command center of the car as well as a fully digital instrument cluster. Instead of the usual leather, everything is covered in Alcantara for a nicer look.
Engine of Ford GT 2016
Engine wise, the 2016 Ford GT comes with a more unusual powertrain for its class. The car boasts Ford’s own EcoBoost 3.5 liter V6 which is twin-turbocharged in this application. Unfortunately, there are no official numbers for the car just yet but it seems that it will make north of 600 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, all without using any electric aids or recovery systems which is quite impressive for a 3.5 liter engine. Also, even though this does not seem like much but the car will be made out of carbon fiber, meaning that the production model will weigh well under 2,800 pounds. This should allow it to get to 60 MPH in less than 2.5 seconds and to up to a maximum top speed of well over 200 MPH. The gearbox will likely be a 7 speed dual-clutch automatic which will power the rear wheels only. The car will make use of carbon ceramic disc brakes at all four corners as standard in order to keep the power in check and it will also get high performance tires as standard.
