The Pagani Huayra is not the fastest or even the prettiest car on the market but it certainly has a lot of character. In order to pump it up a bit, Pagani is set on releasing a new high performance version of the car, especially since the current model is not able to match its competitors. There are still very few details about the upcoming model but it seems that the car will take the same route as the Zonda R, meaning that it will be released under the 2016 Pagani Huayra R name. On top of that, it will not be part of the 100 models of the original series but rather Pagani will made a special edition model which will include around 30 to 40 cars, all of them built to order.

This is because they want to keep the car as exclusive as possible and the Huayra nearly reached its limited of 100 models. The price on the new model will likely be much higher than that of the normal version which was not cheap either. In fact, it was one of the most expensive cars out there with a base sticker price of $1,5 million. The R should cost around $2 million or even more than that for a racing special edition model. The release date should be quite soon, especially since the model has already been spied testing a few times now. The most probable release date is the end of 2016 with the market availability starting in the mid of 2017.
Under the rear deck-lid of the upcoming 2016 Pagani Huayra R we are likely going to see an upgraded engine which will still be made by AMG. This will likely keep its 6 liter displacement but it should receive new turbochargers, intercoolers, a new lightweight exhaust system similar to that on the Zonda R as well as a lot of tweaks. The end result is that the engine could make up to 900 horsepower and more than 700 lb-ft of torque which is not more than what its competitors are making but it is certainly more than the base Huayra. The power will be routed to the rear wheels via a 7 speed sequential gearbox so it should be able to accelerate to 60 MPH in as little as 3 seconds and go up to a maximum top speed of around 220 MPH which will be limited by drag.

The exterior as well as the running gear will change the most over the base model. The running gear will receive new lighter suspension components, bigger brakes, lightweight rims and even slick tires. These are meant to allow the car to handle the extra power and help it take corners at a higher speed than the base model. On the outside, the 2016 Pagani Huayra R will receive a new aerodynamic package which will include the usual active aerodynamics in the front as well as a fixed wing spoiler in the back. The front will also receive a bigger splitter, a new underside which will channel air more efficiently as well as a bigger rear diffuser.

The interior will be stripped down of the usual comfort features in order to decrease the weight from the current 3,000 pounds to less than 2,500 pounds. This should make it the lightest car in its class and with the extra power, it will certainly be faster around a track than any of its direct competitors even though it is low on power and it does not use a fancy electric system to give it grip and extra power in critical moments. Just like with the Zonda R, the car will likely come with full racing seats and harnesses, a multifunctional steering wheel as well as a racing instrument cluster which will be providing the driver all the information it needs.
