All car guys out there thought that the Cayman had one of the best chassis ever made and that the car was capable of so much more than Porsche was letting it. Many thought that they did this in order to protect the 911 Carrera but that time passed and Porsche released a very special model of their mid-engined sports car. The 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 is the ultimate Cayman and one of the best cars to drive money can buy. It is based on the regular Cayman GTS but it comes with an all new running gear, a different engine, slight upgrades to its exterior as well as an upgraded interior.
2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 Price And Release Date
These changes do put it dangerously close to a 911 Carrera but just how sales results shown, the car is intended for a completely different group of people so it did not impact the 911 sales in Europe or on the US market. The 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 is already available for sale in most parts around the World and it can be had for a base price of $85,000, quite a bit more than the base model and around $10,000 less than the 911. At this price point it comes with a very impressive engine which can also be found on the 911.
The new 3.8 liter naturally aspirated flat-6 has been taken out of the previous generation 911 and it has been slightly modified so it makes a bit less power. The engine is rated for 385 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque and it can rev to as high as 8,000 rpm meaning that it is one of the best sounding engines out there. Unlike the Cayman GTS or even the S model, there is no automatic gearbox available for it which is quite unusual. This is because Porsche wanted to offer a “back to basics” experience which gives the driver of the car complete control over the vehicle. The transmission is a 6 speed manual and it has been tuned so it can get the 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 to 60 MPH in less than 4.2 seconds and up to a top speed of 183 MPH. These numbers make it just as fast as the older 911 Carrera with the added bonus of its chassis.
Thanks to the fact it is a mid-engined sports car, the Cayman offers a nearly 50/50 weight distribution. On top of that, it comes with active transmission mounts as well as a completely new suspension system. The car has the same front end as the 911 GT3 with the bigger brakes and the lightweight construction, the back of the car has firmer springs and shocks and it sits 1.2 inches lower than the base model. These changes make it one of the best cars in terms of handling out there and it might be the perfect companion for road or track use.
2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 Changes
On the outside, the 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 has not been left unchanged so it now comes with a new aerodynamic package which is there to offer more downforce, less aerodynamic drag and also to make the car look better. Other changes include blacked out inserts around the headlights and windows as well as bigger side intakes with the GT4 logo etched on them. On the inside, the new 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 is similar to the GTS but it comes as standard with sportier seats with better support as well as a sport steering wheel.
