2016 Porsche Macan Changes

The Macan is quite an interesting car because it offers the behavior of a sports car while having enough room for five passengers and their luggage. It has been first released back in 2014 and since then it started to become quite successful, especially with the help of its design which is one of the best on any other crossover. Porsche will update in the next few months in order to introduce a new version on the US market and also give it a slight refresh which is said to include mostly interior equipment updates.

The platform will remain the same as before meaning it will continue to use the old MLB platform. This is a bit unfortunate, especially since the Q7 and now the Q5 have both been moved on the MLB Evo platform which is lighter, stronger and easier to make as well. Rumors suggest that this model will not see the all needed update for at least the next four years. Until them, we will have to do with the current version of the Macan which despite its small size and great on-road behavior, it weighs more than 4,200 pounds! However, thanks to its standard air suspension system or optional Porsche active management suspension unit, the car drives better than a lot of hot hatchbacks on the market which is not an easy feat to achieve.

Changes

The biggest changes on the 2016 Porsche Macan are going to be to its powertrain. The US market is expected to get two all new engines while Europe will likely see its base engine updated as well. Thanks to these changes, the price on the US market could drop to around $47,000 which is a $5,000 drop. This is because the new base engine will likely be the 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 offered in Europe. This will provide up to 240 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque and it will be the fuel efficient version of the car. A diesel is also expected to hit the US shores but this time it will make less power than the European version of the 2016 Porsche Macan. Rumors say that it will have up to 240 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque which is still quite impressive.

The S model of the Macan on the other hand will stick with the current 3 liter twin-turbocharged V6 which offers a healthy 340 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque, enough to get it to 158 MPH and give it a 0 to 60 MPH time of less than 5 seconds. The top of the range Turbo model will come with a 3.6 liter twin-turbocharged V6 offering 400 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. This will provide a top speed of 165 MPH and a 0 to 60 MPH time of 4 seconds! All engines come as standard with a seven speed PDK gearbox, similar to that on the 911 as well as all wheel drive.

The exterior design of new 2016 Porsche Macan will not change all that much over the 2014 model. However, we do expect a couple of new wheel designs to be introduced on the car and especially the Carrera Classic rims which have been offered with most of their other models.

The interior of the 2016 Porsche Macan on the other hand will get a bit more attention. The navigation and infotainment unit will be upgraded with new hardware which should run its operating system a lot faster. The user interface is also expected to receive minor modifications which will allow the driver and its passengers to use it quite a bit faster. Also, a new steering wheel inspired by that of the special editions of the 911 could be offered for a limited time on the Turbo model.
